It is usually really easy to buy birthday presents for a five year old boy. Most five year old boys are usually obsessed with one thing. If you know the boy, it shouldn't be a problem, because that's all they talk about. With one boy it might be horses or tractors. With another boy, it might be cars or super heroes. If you don't know the boy well, talk to his parents and find out what he likes and what he already has.
A boy that is into super heroes will like most anything to do with them. The possibilities are endless. You can buy action figures and the accessories that go with them. There are often "Hot Wheels" and "Matchbox" cars with their pictures on them. There are movies and posters you can buy. Don't forget video games. Just be sure to check with mom to see what system he has and what games he already has. If he doesn't have a game system, you may be able to find a hand held game he would like.
He may like a coloring book about super heroes or a story book. They are both fun and educational, too. Simple puzzles are good, too. Just be sure you don't get one with too many pieces or it may be too hard for him.
If you don't want to buy toys, stores usually have sheet sets, pillows, and blankets with popular super heroes on them. Towels and wash cloths, trash cans, rugs, shower curtains, and bubble bath may have pictures of his favorites.
Clothes are not usually a favorite for most five year-olds. However, if he needs clothes, if it has pictures of his favorite thing on it, he won't be too disappointed. Most stores carry shirts, underwear, socks, shoes, and sometimes even coats with super heroes on them. Hats, mittens, and gloves, and pajamas can sometime be found with super hero pictures. Make sure to try and get it in his favorite color.
Buying for a boy that loves cars is really easy, too. "Cars" and "Cars 2" are out on dvd. There are Matchbox cars and Hot Wheels cars. You can get race tracks, race cars, police cars, semi trucks to store cars. There are remote control cars, noisy battery operated cars. There are area rugs with towns and roads for their room. Just about anything you want to give can be found with some kind of car or racing theme. A child that's wild about cars probably likes monster trucks, too. There are a lot of toy monster trucks to choose from. They can usually be found on dvd also.
Horses and other animal themed toys can usually be found at your local department store. If you can't find what you are looking for check out toy stores, or look online. There are horse board games, card games, and video games to choose from. Breyer horses are very popular and have things like stables you can buy to go with them. You can find everything from shirts to lunch boxes on-line at places like HorsePresence.com. Soft horse blankets are usually easy to find in department stores.
Little country boys that like tractors will probably have a favorite. They might want one like dad has, or one dad wishes he had. There are several different ones to choose from, Case International, Farmall, New Holland, and quite a few colors. The most popular tractor is probably John Deere. You can find John Deere toys just about anywhere. Hats, shirts and other clothing can often be found at tractor supply stores. Just make sure you know which kind he likes first.
There are so many other great ideas. Dinosaurs, trains, building blocks, airplanes, and so much more. It would be hard to list them all. It's all about knowing what they are passionate about.
