Grandpa and Grandma Baker

Thyrsa Margie Shuff was born at home, the second child of Henry Smith Shuff and Sarah A Victoria Eveline McClellan. Their first child was a boy that was either stillborn or died at birth. He had red hair and she named him Shelby Ardith Shuff. Sarah Shuff was very strict with her girls. She, herself, had run away with a man without being married when she was a young school teacher. She wanted to make sure her girls did not make the same mistake. Thyrsa started school at the age of four. She lived almost at the top of Shuff Hill. The school was a long way down the hill, up a road, and across a creek. Thyrsa walked alone. It wasn't until years later that she learned that her poppy followed her to make sure she was okay. School was much different when Thyrsa was a girl. There was only one room. One teacher taught all the grades. I don't know who her first teacher was, but her favorite teacher was Mr. Parsons. He was a little short man with a big hump on his back. He was very

UFO?

I wish I had wrote down the dates, but it didn't occur to me at the time. It was in the late1980's or early 1990's. My sister, my three children, and I were going to our home in Adams County, Ohio from a visit at Mamaw Spencer's house in Morrow, Ohio. It was really late at night. There was a bright light in the sky. At first we didn't think much about it.  It seemed as if the light was following us, even when we turned on different highways and roads. When we got to Wildcat Road, on the edge of Brown and Adams County,  just a few miles from home, it was still overhead and we were starting to wonder about it. When I turned onto Wildcat Road, whatever it was exploded in the sky. My sister and one of my daughters saw it, too. As soon as we got home we turned on the television. It was early in the morning, maybe 3 or 4:00. After a while, a news story came on. It was a report about an explosion in thithe sky over Brown County, Ohio. Numerous people witnessed it. Area fa

Ghosts of Brethitt County, Kentucky

Papas and Mamaw Spencer grew up in Brethitt County, Kentucky. I guess they encountered a few ghosts there. I'm going to try and retell the stories that they told me. I don't want them to be lost.  If you see a mistake, Uncle Bud, let me know and I'll correct it. Mamaw said there used to be a log footbridge that crossed a creek. Whenever she would step on the log, a small kitten would jump up on the log and walk across the log in front of her. When they got to the end, the kitten would jump off and disappear. She and others with her, looked for the kitten, but it was gone. They crossed back to the other side of the creek, but saw no sign of the kitten. However, when they once again crossed the log to continue on to where they were going, the kitten again jumped up on the log. It only crossed the footlog in one direction. Nobody ever figured out what caused the kitten to haunt the footlog. Mamaw also told another story. A young married couple down the road had a baby. One da
