Decorating a Pumpkin Without Cutting

There are a lot of different ways to decorate a pumpkin for Halloween without carving it. One of the easiest ways is to paint it. You can simply paint a traditional jack-o-lantern face. That is simple and anyone can do it. However, if you would like something more creative, you can paint a cartoon face. There are several that are quite easy. Spiderman is one that is relatively easy. Paint a large red oval on the front of the pumpkin, or paint the whole pumpkin red. After it drys, paint lines for th spider webs, and copy Spiderman's eyes, also in black. There are others you can paint, like Tigger, or Garfield that don't require as much paint.
Turn your pumpkin into a bat or spider. You can paint the pumpkin all over with spray paint and let dry. However, another way to do it requires only a can of some of the sparkley black hairspray from the Halloween isle of your local department store. With this, you must be careful not to smudge the hairspray. It is faster and the sparkles add a nice effect. Next you need some black felt, plain stick pins, glue, black sequins or glitter, and black pipe cleaners.
To make the bat, cut out two triangles of the black felt, of the same size, for the ears.  Then cut out two wings exactly alike. Make sure they are about an inch shorter than your pipe cleaners. Glue the top of the wings to the pipe cleaners, leaving an inch of pipe cleaner to stick into the pumpkin on each side. Use the straight pins to add the ears. Decorate with sequins and glitter, then spray as much or as little of the hairspray as you like.
Making the spider is even easier. Bend eight pipe cleaners to shape the spiders legs. Stick four legs into the pumpkin on both sides. Put eyes on the spider with squins and glitter. For a "cute" look, add a nose and mouth. Spray with hairspray. You're done!
Don't have any extra money to spend? Not a problem. Look in your junk drawer or sewing basket for materials. Buttons, yarn, lace, just about anything can be stuck on to create a face or hair. Get out some old jewelry or Christmas ornaments. Have an old wig? Put it on your pumpkin. You can also raid the kids toy box for Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head parts. Just let your imagination run wild.
Decorating your pumpkin without carving it will help it last longer, and you can use it later for pumpkin pie.
